James Hardie Webinar - Making 7-Star Possible with James Hardie
Date: Wednesday 15 May
Time: 10am - 11am
Location: Online - Via Zoom
POINTS: 1 formal CPD point
COST: Members Only - FREE
Overview:
The 2022 National Construction Code (NCC) requires all new Australian homes to meet a minimum energy efficiency rating of 7 stars, under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS). More energy-efficient homes mean more comfortable homes, which use less energy, marking a significant step forward in designing dwellings with climate front-of-mind.
As such, builders and designers need to have a good handle on how they can create 7-star homes that are visually stunning as well as affordable. Simple design features and product selections can make a big difference to a home's energy efficiency.
By understanding the NCC changes and design elements that impact star-rating, this presentation will help take the confusion out of 7-star design, allowing you to build new homes with confidence and deliver the modern homes your clients seek.

AACA Units of Competency:
DETAILED DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION
This unit of competency encompasses the process of developing the design through research, detailed assessment of options and the integration of technical solutions, value and cost control processes to maintain or enhance the design intent. The final design proposal is cohesive, fully described and resolved to achieve value and cost objectives, and compliance with planning controls and construction codes.
PC45 Be able to nominate and integrate quality and performance standards with regard to selected materials, finishes, fittings, components and systems, considering the impact on Country and the environment, and the whole life carbon impact of the project. This includes integrating life cycle assessments and other expertise and advice from consultants.
PC46 Be able to produce project documentation that meets the requirements of the contract and procurement process and complies with regulatory controls, building standards and codes, and conditions of construction and planning approvals.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this presentation attendees will...
- Have an in-depth understanding of the changes to the NCC, including 7-star, and the impact to builders and homeowners
- New knowledge of the key design levers which influence star rating and recommendations on how to apply this knowledge to certain residential styles in specific climate zones
- Be able to dispel misconceptions around the correlation between R-value and star rating, and have visibility of the cost to build 7-star homes using Hardie™ exterior cladding solutions versus other products
