To celebrate our new partnership we asked 5 Questions to their General Manager of Architectural Specifications, Marcio Da Silva, to find out a little more about him.
1. Who are you?
My name is Marcio Da Silva, and I serve as the General Manager of Architectural Specifications at No.1 Roofing & Building Supplies. With a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from UFPR in Brazil, where I was born, I bring over 15 years of local experience in the Australian building market. My diverse roles within the industry have equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of various sectors, enabling me to grasp the nuances of different project types and needs.
2. What do you do?
My mission is to provide our clients with expert technical guidance through thoughtful engagement. I weave together information, creativity, and empathy to craft tailored solutions and design insights. I firmly believe in the power of collaboration, where great minds synergise to achieve exceptional outcomes. My primary objective is to understand your project’s requirements, constraints, budget, and design vision, and then assist in developing a project specification that meets all criteria, enhancing the overall building process.
3. Who do you admire and why?
My passion for design and architecture is deeply rooted in my pursuit of excellence. Studying at a university with a strong focus on mid-century architecture allowed me to delve into the works of Oscar Niemeyer and other remarkable mid-century Brazilian architects. However, it was encountering the masterpieces of Antoni Gaudi that opened my eyes to the profound thought and creativity that can transform a building into a work of art. In Australia, the innovative approaches of architects like Stutchbury and Murcutt, who rethink buildings for sustainability and symbiosis with the landscape, continue to inspire me. There are countless architects and designers I admire, each contributing uniquely to the architectural tapestry.
4. What is it about Archi Team that made you want to get involved?
No.1 Roofing & Building Supplies is a family-owned business with over 20 years of excellence in manufacturing and supplying roofing and cladding solutions. Our team of over 230 roofing and cladding enthusiasts operates across 11 locations, serving Sydney Metro, ACT, Regional NSW, North and South Coastal NSW. We embody the spirit of starting small, dreaming big, and working tirelessly to build from the ground up. This ethos resonates with Archi Team's philosophy, presenting an opportunity for a collaborative partnership. We share a commitment to the industry and are eager to work with Archi Team members to positively impact their projects and drive mutual success.
5. What has been the most scary / courageous thing you’ve ever done?
Starting life from zero in a different country. It takes a profound level of courage and meticulous planning to leave behind the familiar comforts of family and friends. Venturing into a new country means navigating through the complex landscapes of language and culture, embracing the unknown with open arms. When the safety nets of the past are removed, you must rely on your inner strength and the vision of your dreams to craft a new reality. It was a daunting and challenging journey, but nearly 20 years later, I can proudly say it was a transformative and rewarding experience.
